Chris Summers - Colorist, Flatter
Empty Room Studios Members
I was born and raised in Abilene, Texas.  I remember reading comics as far back as I can, well, remember. As a kid my dad really liked Sgt. Rock and all the other war comics as well as all the Old Marvel and Epic Conan stuff so those were always around.  ElfQuest and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were probably the first comics that I really got into when I got older, around 11 or 12. From there I got into comics in a major way and read everything from X-Men to Animal Man. At that point I decided I wanted to work in comics. Eventually I enrolled at Abilene Christian University and started taking Graphic Design and Art courses. Shortly after that I married my wonderful wife, Stephane, and eventually had an awesome son, James.

Due to having a family I had to leave school and the dream of working in comics behind and get a "real" job. Eventually my wife's job transferred her and it became more economically sound for me to become a stay at home Dad, which I don't regret at all. Not only did I get to spend some great time with my son but it also gave me the opportunity to start pursuing art, most specify comic art, again. After thinking about it for a while I realized that, while I like drawing allot, it has always been just a step to getting to coloring for me. So I started teaching myself to color. Along the way I have gotten to work with some great guys that have really helped me out and I appreciate it more that I can ever tell them (Rico, John, Jim and Moose I especially thank you).

Well that is the story up till now; hopefully it isn't the end for a long time because I really love doing this!

How long have you been an artist?
Professionally, about 4 years.
What are some of your major art influences?
Jim Lee, Alex Sinclair, John Rauch, Rico Renzi, Laura Martin, Alex Toth, Sean "Cheeks" Galloway, Neil Adams
What are some of your major genre influences?
Fantasy is proabaly my big thing. I love the Lord of the Rings movies and book, collect swords, armor and all that kind of stuff. I really enjoy reading fantasy novels and those seem to really spark my imagination. I also enjoy superhero comics and comics in general.
What sort of training/schooling/experience do you have with art?
I have done odd art jobs for almost 15 years but for the last 4 I have been doing art solely as my carrer. Most of that time has been spent as a Colorist for comics. I almost have my degree in Graphic Arts from Abilene Christian University, but due to job situations, had to leave before I could finish it.
How did you become involved in Empty Room Studios?
I was asked by Jeremy to work on one of the webcomics for his Baeg Tobar project and from there got to know the guys and gals at ERS. SO when I was asked to join ERS I was very flattered.
