A Midwest native, Jeremy Mohler is originally from Kansas, though he has spent some time living on the East Coast as well. He has attended the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art, Inc. and the Kansas City Art Institute, where he graduated with a BFA in Illustration/Design in December of 2004 after seven long years of college. During the latter years of school and since graduation, he has done a variety of freelance work for a variety of publishers, from full colour covers and black and white spot illustration, to web-design. He currently lives in Blue Springs, Missouri, where he freelances full time.

How long have you been an artist? |
|
|
|
I won't claim the typical "I've been drawing since I was born" artist cliche. Honestly, I have no recollection or even evidence that I was drawing at a young age. I do remember sitting at my Grandmother's kitchen table at some early stage in life drawing knights. I also pursued the art thing through high school, but honestly, it didn't really kick in until I got to college. Have I always been an artist? Probably. As to when I consciously realized it, probably not until college. |

What are some of your major art influences? |
|
|
|
It's scary to say this, but the first comic I remember buying and thinking "I want to draw stuff like this!" was X-Force #1 by Rob Liefeld. Frightening, isn't it? All that aside, serious influences vary - first and foremost, Frank Frazetta (the Man himself), Barry Windsor-Smith, Michael Kaluta, Charles Vess, and just about any of the European comic artists - Marini, Frezzato, Benoit Springer, Manara and Juan Gimenez. In terms of contemporary American comics, John Cassaday is probably my favourite artist in comics (and probably the best in the business right now), Cary Nord, and Chris Bachalo are also some favorites.
More classical inspiration ranges from the Golden Age of Illustration - NC Wyeth, Howard Pyle, and Maxfield Parrish to Da Vinci and Titian. And last, we certainly cannot leave out Ivan Bilibin who as of late has been a massive influence on my colour work. |

What are some of your major genre influences? |

|
|
The earliest influence I can remember are tales of King Arthur and his knights, Disney's Robinhood, and later, the He-Man cartoons. Naturally, this led me to fantasy and science-fiction novels, comics, and films. I can probably say that Conan was a large influence as well. |

What sort of training/schooling/experience do you have with art? |
|
|
|
I began college at the Kansas City Art Institute. After my sophomore year, I went out to the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art, Inc. where I studied for two years. I then returned to the KCAI and got my Bachelor of the Fine Arts degree with emphasis in Illustration/Design. Since then, I have been freelancing in various RPG and comics related fields. |

How did you become involved in Empty Room Studios? |
|
|
|
Well, I was aware of ERS and Rick Hershey through RPG.net. I decided to drop him a line one day about possibly joining the studio in the hope of generating some more work for myself. Well, Rick and I got to talking and it turned out that we had allot of the same plans and goals with our freelance careers, so we decided to join forces! Watch out, world! |
