Keith Curtis - Cartographer, Graphic Designer, Illustrator
Empty Room Studios Members
Keith Curtis is an Illustrator and Graphic Designer living in Port Angeles, Washington. He is married and has a wonderfully supportive wife, a beautiful daughter, and a big bounding boxer named Yoda.

He has been drawing for as long as he can remember. He has done silk screen, illustrated jewelry catalogs, prime labels, done logo design, and digital pre-press. He has an honest-to-goodness degree in Graphic Arts and Interior Design from CSU Fresno that says he is allowed to do this sort of work.

Several years ago, He walked away from a steady paycheck to become a full-time father. Far from stifling his artistic creativity, it has given him the freedom to become a free-lance illustrator. He does numerous personal commissions and has a good working relationship with many RPG publishers.

Although he is skilled at illustration, his major strength is cartography.

"I have over 26 years experience in graphic arts and illustration. I have a thorough understanding of the printing process and will not deliver an unprintable image. I also believe firmly in the importance of a deadline. I don't miss deadlines."

Art Gallery Hire this artist!
How long have you been an artist?
Professionally? Since 1981. I started out at a custom T-Shirt press that also did some offset. Non-professionally, I decided to get serious in the seventh grade.
What are some of your major art influences?
Burne Hogarth and Stephen R. Peck for anatomy. For comic style work, Perez and Byrne for their constructive approach to anatomy. I also like Frazetta and Wood for dynamic, sensual composition. Elmore is probably my favorite RPG artist. I'm pretty simple and mainstream that way.
What are some of your major genre influences?
Comics, Fantasy and Sci Fi.
What sort of training/schooling/experience do you have with art?
I have an AA in art from Merced JC, and a BA in Graphic Arts from CSU Fresno. I have done newspaper cartooning and illustration, Offset, Flexographic Pre-press, Catalog Illustration, and technical drawing. I have helped run workshops for the FTA (Flexographic Technical Association). Most of my experience has been technical, pre-press graphic arts (working with negatives, plates, color separations and correction, etc.), and working from the digital side of things. Only in the last few years have I gotten into RPG work.
How did you become involved in Empty Room Studios?
